IGCSE Results Release:

Results for the November IGCSE examinations become available at 8am on Wednesday 18 January. Parents are welcome to come to school between 9am and 11am on this day to connect with their children around results. We look forward to celebrating successes and where challenges are met, our Academics team will be available to confirm the best way forward.

Form 1 Camp:

Our Form 1s head out to Victoria Falls on Monday. Day scholars are to be at the bus shed at 6am, and are to be collected on Friday at 3pm. A few reminders:

• No gadgets, devices or cameras on camp
• Pocket money should be included in the range of USD20-USD50
• MCC Sports Bag or bag of similar size to be used for packing 
• Don’t forget to pack – Bible, Notebook, Stationery, Insect Repellent amongst the usual camp attire
• No bedding required as is provided
• Prophylactic malaria treatment to be started before departure (Boarders will receive this from the Sanatorium) 

Rugby Tour Meeting:

Parents of those going on rugby tour please diarise a meeting at 6pm on Thursday 19 January in the MCGS hall for Gweru based parents. Non-Gweru based parents will be sent the link to join virtually by end of day Tuesday 17 January. 

Boarder Signing Out:

Please take note that borders may only go home for the weekend at Fixture Frees. Please take note of the three dates as outlines in the calendar. Note that only the Mid-Term fixture free is a compulsory ‘sign out’ weekend. 

Parents Assembly AGM:

Please note that this important parents meeting will take place at 11am on Thursday 16 February in the MCGS hall. Parental attendance is expected. Boarder parents are to then sign their children out for the Mid-Term fixture free at this meeting. 

Sports Programme:

Please see the attached sports programme in operation until Interhouse Athletics after which time compulsory swimming and pre-season winter sport training will come into effect. Note that whilst Enbee Gweru has limited girls costume sizes in stock, George Mitchell Sports should be carrying the full range now. The second style option for boys’ swimming costumes is not as yet available, existing style to be used.

End of Year Examinations: 

End of Year Examinations will resume and run on Thursday 9 December and Friday 10 December for all Form 1s, 2s & 3s and some Lower 6 pupils. Timetables and guidelines have been sent to parents and guardians’ emails addresses, and posted on the MCC Eagles’ Virtual Noticeboard for students. 

ZIMSEC Examinations:

ZIMSEC Shona and Ndebele examinations will run on Thursday 16 December 2021 and Tuesday 4 January 2022. Candidates are expected to be at the venue 30 minutes before the scheduled time dressed in full school uniform.

Form 1 Parents Seminar:

A reminder to all Form 1 parents to please join us at 6pm on Thursday 9 December for a special hour long parenting seminar designed just for you. Please refer to your emails for further details and the Zoom meeting link. 

Form 2 Forum:

This important meeting for ALL Form 2 parents with their children will take place on Thursday 16 December at 6pm. Note that attendance by all Form 2s and their parents is expected as discussion will be focused around subject pathways in relation to ‘O’ Level examinations. Congratulations:

To Karl Makahamadze and Sharon Marangwanda who took part in the national debate trials this past weekend hosted by the National Debate Association in conjunction with the Royal Pact Debate Academy. Competently debating their way through the many gruelling rounds, these two Eagles excelled and were selected into the national debate team! We also celebrate Nkosilathi Magazi who made the national U17 soccer team and Hannah Pombo who made the U18 national netball team who were due to take part in the Region 5 Youth Games before their tours were called off.

The emphasis is actually on Jesus and not on ourselves. It is He who is the trustworthy one and no one else. He will finish the work in our lives, therefore all we need to do is put our complete faith in Him. He will keep us fit for the coming of The Lord. Jesus is completely dependable when He says something, we can be sure that He will do it – He will surely make it happen, we just need to be patient and hopeful.

A couple of weeks ago, we were invited to the Northern Cape to help in that desperate situation where there was no rain only fire and devastation. A pitiful sight to see, it looked completely hopeless. Those very brave farmers, shopkeepers, businessmen, schoolchildren, old-aged people put their faith in the Faithful One and not in their circumstances of fire, drought, heat and devastation. And do you know what? The Faithful One, Jesus came through for them. Rain, gently-soaking, prayer-answering rain is falling all over the Northern Cape. In some areas, they haven’t had rain for years and the rain is coming down. 

I want to say to you today, I don’t know what your situation is – Maybe you are facing a so-called hopeless situation. Don’t put your trust, or your effort or your faith in yourself. Put it in the Lord Jesus Christ and He will come through for you. He never ceases to amaze me when it comes to His steadfastness and dependability. I love Him so much. 

I want to say to you today my dear friend, put your trust in the Lord for your health, for your finances and for your future. Don’t put your trust in man and God will honour His word. He has never once failed me and that is why I get so emotional sometimes when I see the goodness of God.

Have a wonderful day as you contemplate, think about, the Faithful One. It will change your whole outlook towards life.

Global Leadership Summit 2021

All Form 1, 2, 3 and Lower 6 pupils will be expected to be at school on Saturday 6 November for the day for this year’s Global Leadership Summit programme. Pupils will have the opportunity to watch a number of the speakers as well as engaging in conversations and developments to help them assimilate the content. We thank Global Leadership Summit Zimbabwe for once again making this amazing programme available to our pupils. 

Tea break and lunch will be provided for all pupils.

Speech Day 2021

Note that this will take place at 10am on Saturday 27 November. All Form 1, 2, 3 and Lower 6 pupils will be expected to be at school for this function. We ask for attendance by Form 4 and Upper 6 students, although we are aware that public examinations will have finished by then. Prize winners in these forms will be specifically informed to give an opportunity to receive their prize in person. Note that due to COVID-19 protocols and regulations, this will not be a public event. Details for virtual viewing will be made available to you in due course. 

Clearance Procedures

A reminder that as Form 4 and Upper 6 pupils finish their public examinations, all pupils are expected to properly complete the clearance procedure within 48 hours of completion of their last examination. Pupils are being issued with their clearance forms on Monday. These forms are to be signed by all associated subject teachers, by sports department, by hostels, by library etc to confirm that all textbooks, sports equipment, library books etc have been signed back in with the school. The duly completed clearance forms must then be submitted to the Academics Director on one’s departure.

“Earn a Brick” Campaign

A reminder that all outstanding forms are needing to be returned, that lost forms will incur a penalty and that in cases where pupils did not manage to complete any tasks to earn money, a donation is encouraged.

October – November Examination Session 

Starts on Friday 1 October. See attached timetable. 

Please take note of the following:

• SWOT Leave for all Form 4s, L6s & U6s starts on Monday 4 October. 
• Boarders will be doing SWOT from school.
• Day Scholars do not have to come to school during SWOT Leave. However, should they be coming to school to get assistance from their teachers, they are to be at school by 7:20am – reporting to their form teacher for register taking. A day scholar may then only go home between 1-2pm, or at 3:30pm, or at 5pm. Any movements outside of this time will require a written request from a parent. 
• Examination Days – Day scholars should be at school by 7:20am on the day that they have a morning examination, and at 1pm on a day that they have an afternoon examination.
• Internal revision and SWOT programmes are in place for Form 2 and 3 pupils for their public examinations. 
• Form 4, L6 & U6 boarders may only be signed out to go home after their last examination is concluded.
• Lower 6 lessons resume on Monday 8 November (but ALL boarders need to be in hostel from Friday 5 November due to a compulsory function on Saturday 6 November)
• All Form 4 and Upper 6 pupils need to complete and submit their Clearance Form within 48 hours after completion of their last examination. Clearance involves teachers confirming return of all school textbooks, equipment, Earn a Brick forms, Library book submissions etc. Missing items may be charged to your account.

Engagement Meetings with the Head:

We invite all Harare-based parents to an engagement meeting with the Headmaster on Saturday 25 September 9am – 10am at Zimbali Gardens (26 Cecil Road, Greendale, Harare). Please let us know if you plan to attend to assist with catering numbers for tea. 

We also extend the invitation to all prospective Harare-based parents to meet with the Head and learn more about our school starting with tea at 10am on Saturday 25 September. Please see the attached flyer for this and circulate to colleagues and friends. 

We invite all Gweru-based parents to an engagement meeting with the Headmaster on Thursday 30 September at 5pm in the school hall. 

We strongly believe in an ‘open door policy’ and remind our parents to engage with us on an ongoing basis, not just at meetings. Please contact us should you wish to discuss issues pertaining to your child or our institution. We are in partnership. 

Spirit of Partnership:

We thank the Parents Assembly Committee for their ongoing role in challenging us to high levels of service delivery. Our goal is to indeed offer a quality service which is of value to money. 

We too thank the Parents Assembly Committee for the Resource Centre Initiative and you as parents for your ongoing support through payment of the PAC Levy towards this much needed infrastructural development. We, however, ask for your assistance in ensuring that all outstanding “Earn a Brick” forms are returned to the school. Some pupils appear to have forgotten their forms at home. For the integrity of the exercise, ALL forms must be returned, and the penalty for lost forms will need to be paid. 

We also ask for your support in the Library Book collection drive. Every pupil was asked to return to school with a donation of at least two books to put towards the school library. These may be new or second hand books. We only ask that the books not be at odds with our Christian beliefs, although they do not have to be religious Christian books. Examples of books that would not be welcome are books on other religions, horoscopes, excessive violence or material inappropriate for teenage readers.

Dear Parents and Guardians, 

As we approach the middle of the year a reminder of our theme may assist us to refocus on what is of value to us. The Greek word Eudaimonia which is commonly translated as flourishing has also been translated as blessedness. The state of flourishing can therefore be considered to be a state of blessedness. Our theme of Flourishing is inextricably linked to the state of being blessed by the Lord.

This state is not dependent on external factors but on the work of the Holy Spirit inside our hearts. This is why our scripture of the year Colossians 3:23 is the best suited to our Flourishing theme because it is only when we do what we do as unto the Lord that we can find true fulfilment and flourish as a consequence. 

Assessment 3 Academics Results

AS/A2 Level

In order to ensure that we raise our pass rates and students who require additional attention are sufficiently catered for we have introduced a remedial action program to start in July. This will be a continuation of the program we trialled in the 1^st term. More details of this program will be made available at the end of the holidays.

Public Examinations

For the examination classes we are now in the middle of the 2021 public examination registration period.  We encourage all parents of examination writing students to take note of the deadlines in order to avoid late entry fees.  The deadline for payment and registration for ZIMSEC examinations is 25 June and the deadline for Cambridge examinations is 30 June 2021.  Examination fee payments and registration forms need to reach us by close of business on the deadline date. 

Sporting Activities

Fitness activities last term included a successful inter house cross country event held under strict Covid 19 guidelines.  Athletes were released to the fields in batches to avoid a crowd gathering on the fields.  The focus for the second half of the term then shifted to ball skills in various sporting disciplines.  This was done in line with SRC guidelines, a model adopted by other ATS schools as well.  We advise students to bring their own personalised sports equipment such as hockey sticks and individual balls where these are available.

Life Skills

Due to the time lost during lockdown we were unable to conduct any student camps as we would normally do in the first term.  We are therefore planning to run 3 camps in the next term. In preparation for these camps L6 students and Stewards are requested to bring a tent, sleeping bag, hiking shoes and a bicycle.  The 3^rd camp is the form 1 camp, and they will not be required to bring anything that they don’t already have.  Actual dates for the camps will be communicated at the end of the holidays.  

The College continues to work with Zebra Driving School in assisting our students to obtain driver’s licences.  Since we returned to physical instruction after the lockdown earlier in the year we have seen 8 students earning the right to drive.  We encourage more students over the age of 16 to sign up for lessons so they gain this very essential life skill. 

Philanthropy 

The recognition of the plight of others in our community has grown significantly among our students.  Various clubs have been supporting a number of initiatives to assist those less fortunate than themselves.  As a Christian school we have a mandate to develop outreach as a virtue among our students.  One of the more notable initiaves is that by the Social Welfare Club.  They have continued to support Chingegomo Primary School in Lalapansi, to which they donated different essential supplies raised by the general student body.  They have also managed to raise enough money to pay fees for 51 students in various school across the Gweru district.

The Parents Assembly Committee (PAC) met physically on Wednesday 2 May 2021.  One of the salient points raised was the students’ drive to support the PAC’s project to build a resource centre in the lower quad.  All pupils have been issued with an “Earn- A-Brick” form. Please note that the idea behind this campaign is that the pupils earn bricks!  We commend the pupils for this fantastic initiative and look forward to support from the parents and the wider community. 

Below are some suggested tasks and remuneration amounts to help give ideas on activities that can be done by a pupil to “Earn a Brick”.  Kindly note that this list is not exclusive, and we welcome generous contributions towards this exciting project which will bring great benefit to our pupils.

Car wash – 10 Bricks (USD2)

Watering the garden/lawn – 15 Bricks (USD3)

Weeding the vegetable/flower beds – 15 Bricks (USD3)

Wash Windows – 25 Bricks (USD5)

Preparing an enjoyable meal – 35 Bricks (USD7)

Running an errand – 30 Bricks (USD6)

Hired to Work – employed for a day – 40 Bricks (USD8)

Other – at agreed upon rate 

The minimum target per person is USD50 and a lost form will incur a USD50 penalty.

Library Books

As we build up to the launch of our resource centre building project we are also going to embark on a plan to increase our reading resources currently housed in our existing library. Our resources are very low at this point in time and we appeal to parents to assist the students to identify at least 2 books that they would like to donate.  These may be new or second hand books and 2 is only a minimum number so students can donate more.  

We would only ask that the books should not be at odds with our Christian beliefs although they do not have to be religious Christian books.  Examples of books that would not be welcome are books on other religions, horoscopes, excessive violence or material inappropriate for teenage readers. 

Covid 19 Protocol

We encourage students to continue wearing masks, dressing warmly, physically distancing and sanitising hands regularly during the holidays, particularly when out in public or entertaining visitors.  With reports of a third wave in Johannesburg and the recent scare in Kwe Kwe the risk of an escalation in infection rate is never too far away.  Parents are advised to ensure that their children maintain strict adherence to the recommended Covid 19 protocols.

Student Discipline

Management have noticed a spike in incidence of ill-discipline among the students.  Whilst stewards and staff do not have carte blanche in how they apply rules we do want them to operate with a fair amount of autonomy in applying sanctions for lower tier misdemeanours and to this end we will be empowering them further.  We appeal to parents to work with us as we train the students to develop a healthy respect for authority.  In the spirit of Proverbs 22 v 6 we have a mandate to train our children “in the way they should go” so that “when they are old they will not depart from it”. 

We have recently had to deal with issues ranging from making noise in class, loitering, disrespecting seniors and staff, refusing to follow instructions, possessing unauthorised gadgets, to bullying of other students.  On the subject of unauthorised gadgets we advise parents to keep a close eye on gadget use and not to give them replacement gadgets when their regular ones are confiscated at school.  We need to develop students who understand the need to conform to rules set down by the school, their parents and society at large. 

Holidays and Back to school

During the course of the holidays we urge parents to try and ensure that students get sufficient rest particularly in the first week.  It is also advisable for parents to also monitor any potential “binge” behaviour particularly relating to social media, YouTube and television.  As a school we are trying to get students out of the habit of over reliance on electronic media. Students are encouraged to read books and newspapers so as to develop reading. 

The next academic period will begin on 28 June 2021 as per the revised government term calendar.  Boarders will be expected to check into the hostels between 12 noon and 5pm on Sunday 27 June 2021. 

We encourage parents to pay fees based on the details provided in the communication sent by the board last month. Where alternative payment plans are required parents are advised to contact us urgently. As per normal practice admission slips will be requested before students attend lessons next term.

Dear Parents and Guardians, 

As we approach the middle of the year a reminder of our theme may assist us to refocus on what is of value to us. The Greek word Eudaimonia which is commonly translated as flourishing has also been translated as blessedness. The state of flourishing can therefore be considered to be a state of blessedness. Our theme of Flourishing is inextricably linked to the state of being blessed by the Lord.

This state is not dependent on external factors but on the work of the Holy Spirit inside our hearts. This is why our scripture of the year Colossians 3:23 is the best suited to our Flourishing theme because it is only when we do what we do as unto the Lord that we can find true fulfilment and flourish as a consequence. 

Assessment 3 Academics Results

We congratulate the following students for the best results in their respective forms based on the number of A* and A symbols attained:

In order to ensure that we raise our pass rates and students who require additional attention are sufficiently catered for we have introduced a remedial action program to start in July. This will be a continuation of the program we trialled in the 1^st term. More details of this program will be made available at the end of the holidays.

Public Examinations

For the examination classes we are now in the middle of the 2021 public examination registration period.  We encourage all parents of examination writing students to take note of the deadlines in order to avoid late entry fees.  The deadline for payment and registration for ZIMSEC examinations is 25 June and the deadline for Cambridge examinations is 30 June 2021.  Examination fee payments and registration forms need to reach us by close of business on the deadline date. 

Sporting Activities

Fitness activities last term included a successful inter house cross country event held under strict Covid 19 guidelines.  Athletes were released to the fields in batches to avoid a crowd gathering on the fields.  The focus for the second half of the term then shifted to ball skills in various sporting disciplines.  This was done in line with SRC guidelines, a model adopted by other ATS schools as well.  We advise students to bring their own personalised sports equipment such as hockey sticks and individual balls where these are available.

Life Skills

Due to the time lost during lockdown we were unable to conduct any student camps as we would normally do in the first term.  We are therefore planning to run 3 camps in the next term. In preparation for these camps L6 students and Stewards are requested to bring a tent, sleeping bag, hiking shoes and a bicycle.  The 3^rd camp is the form 1 camp, and they will not be required to bring anything that they don’t already have.  Actual dates for the camps will be communicated at the end of the holidays.  

The College continues to work with Zebra Driving School in assisting our students to obtain driver’s licences.  Since we returned to physical instruction after the lockdown earlier in the year we have seen 8 students earning the right to drive.  We encourage more students over the age of 16 to sign up for lessons so they gain this very essential life skill. 

Philanthropy 

The recognition of the plight of others in our community has grown significantly among our students.  Various clubs have been supporting a number of initiatives to assist those less fortunate than themselves.  As a Christian school we have a mandate to develop outreach as a virtue among our students.  One of the more notable initiaves is that by the Social Welfare Club.  They have continued to support Chingegomo Primary School in Lalapansi, to which they donated different essential supplies raised by the general student body.  They have also managed to raise enough money to pay fees for 51 students in various school across the Gweru district.

Lower 6 Forum: We request the attendance of ALL Lower 6 parents for a Lower 6 Forum on Thursday 27 May at 6pm via ZOOM. Please consider this meeting obligatory due to the nature of the agenda. Details will be circulated in a separate email.

Academic Progress Update: Assessment reports for this current assessment period will be available on Thursday 3 June on the Senatical platform.

• Note that where one has children needing to be consulted on different days according to the above schedule, you will be contacted by the end of this week to advise you of your arrangements. 

End of Term Arrangements: 

• Form 2, 3 & Lower 6 pupils may leave for the holidays from 1pm on Wednesday 2 June. Lessons end at 1pm on this day for all forms.

• Form 1 & Upper 6 pupils may leave for the holidays once finished with consultation on Thursday 3 June.

• Form 4 pupils may leave for the holidays once finished with consultation on Friday 4 June.

• All boarders are to have left hostel by 4pm on Friday 4 June.

• Note that there will be NO end of term bus. We ask that boarders take ALL of their possessions home with them to allow for thorough cleaning and sanitisation over the holidays. 

Term 2, 2021: Should commence on Monday 28 June, 2021.

Instructors come to school to conduct provisional licence lessons, and all road lessons depart and return to campus with scheduling of lessons – whether for provisional or for drivers licences – done around a child’s academic timetable so that there is no conflict between programmes.
