Newsflash 4/4/19

Athletics Congratulations – To Leeroy Tapfumaneyi who won a gold medal in the Triple Jump at last week’s national athletics competition. Elizabeth Msipa won silver medals in the 100m and 200m races, and a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay. Elizabeth was also selected into the COSSASA athletics team who will be competing in May. Congratulations also goes to Mr Chimbuya who was appointed as one of the coaches for this team who will be traveling to Swaziland. 

NIAA Results – Please see the attached list for the overview of results from the recently concluded NIAA Vocal and Instrumental Festival. 

NIAA Congratulations – To Rufaro Chikarango on a praise worthy performance at the NIAA Vocal Challenge Cup. We are very proud of her performance. 

NIAA Congratulations – To “Klammnt” who are made up of Tirivashe Muza, Nyasha Zhangazha, Kudzai Garwe, Liliosa Chiminha, Munashe Muchedzi, Ashley Shamhu, Matshidiso Chivasa who received an invitation to perform at the NIAA Finals Concert and went on to win the African Voice Cup for the best Senior Schools African Ensemble. 

NIAA Congratulations – To Kudzai Garwe who received an invitation to perform at the NIAA Junior Highlights Concert and continued to ‘wow’ the crowd with his engaging performance. 

End of Term Arrangements: School ends at 3:30pm on Monday except for pupils writing May-June Examinations. Final assembly will take place on Tuesday 9 April. Form 2, 3 & L6 pupils are free to leave for the school holidays from 1pm on this day. There is Consultation Day for all Form 1, 4 & U6 pupils and parents on Wednesday 10 April between 8am & 1pm. Note that this is an important time of engagement and attendance is expected. Information for new parents regarding Consultation Day: come at a time convenient for you during 8am & 1pm, but note that especially for Forms 1 & 4, you should allow about 1 1/4hrs for consultation. 

End of Term Bus: There will be a bus to Harare on Wednesday 10 April for those who are not involved in Consultation. The bus is scheduled to arrive at Prince Edward School at 1pm. Tickets are $55 each and are issued on a first-come-first-served basis with confirmations given from admin@mcc.ac.zw. Proof of Payment is to be sent to bursar@mcc.ac.zw and

admin@mcc.ac.zw by 3 April. Note that all bookings are subject to our confirmation and places are limited.

Grade 7 Open Day: Takes place this Friday, 29 March at 10am in the school hall. Please continue to spread the word for us. The invitation is open.

Cyclone Response: A huge thank you to everyone who contributed towards the collection of goods for victims of Cyclone Idai. Econet Higher Life collected the items yesterday and are taking them directly to Chimanimani.

Interhouse Athletics Results: We enjoyed a day of good entertaining competition last week. Thanks to those who were able to come along and support. Final House positions were as follows:

National Athletics: We count it a privilege to have been asked by the local organising committee to be the host venue for this year’s national athletics competitions for NAPH and NASH on behalf of the Midlands Province. Competitions are underway and will end on Thursday. Note that our pupils are expected to attend the closing ceremony scheduled for 15:50-16:50hrs on Thursday, and apologise in advance if pupils are slightly delayed in departure. We wish our participating athletes all the best: Anodiwa Ncube, Edmos Dube-Mabeza, Joshua Nyamutora, Ngonidzashe Mareverwa, Leeroy Tapfumaneyi, Laura Dzawo, Hannah Pombo, Elizabeth Msipa, Wadiwanashe Musonza, Simbarashe Kwande and Panashe Dube-Mabeza.

Congratulations: To Ryan Napata, Dominic Mushayi, Maxwell Makara, Adrian Dhliwayo, Jeffrey Mhlanga, Anotidaishe Munda and Lincoln Chiko who were selected into the U17 Provincial Basketball team who are currently in camp and will be competing in further competitions on Friday at Hama High.

Dear Parents and Guardians, 

Cyclone Idai Appeal: Join us in giving support to those families being affected by the cyclone. This is an appeal for aid in cash or kind – we will be collecting items this week to go towards this cause. Donations of clothing items, shoes, diapers, medical supplies, blankets and non-perishable foods are sought. Items can be dropped off through the Front Office. Interhouse Athletics: As per the text message sent out earlier today, our Interhouse Athletics programme will take place tomorrow starting at 8:30am. The invitation is still open to parents to come along and enjoy the competition. Unfortunately we could not put it on Saturday as our athletes need time to rest ahead of next week’s national athletics programme. 

National Athletics: Next week we will be the host venue for the NAPH and NASH National Athletics competitions. The competitions will be held over three days – 26 – 28 March. This is a big and an important competition, and we invite you to come along and spectate. 

Hearty Congratulations: To Elizabeth Msipa and Wadiwanashe Musonza who competed in the Puma School of Speed South African Championships last week. Elizabeth won the bronze medal in the 200m event, and the silver medal in the 100m event. Wadiwanashe won the gold medal in the 400m event. We are very proud of their sporting achievement.

Dear Parents and Guardians, 

Congratulations: To our pupils who took part in the National Institute of Allied Arts Vocal and Instrumental Festival. We are so proud of them all! A very special congratulations to the Honours Winners. A detailed schedule of results will be sent in due course. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and YouTube channel where we will upload some of the performances. 

Our Senior Marimba Band consisting of Lisa Nesara, Joshua Nyamutora, Caleb Hadzirabwi, Edmos Dube-Mabeza, Gavin Magwenzi and Isheanesu Nyamadzi won honours so will be taking part in the Marimba Challenge Cup at Prince Edward School on Friday 15 March at 3pm. We encourage parents to go along and offer support to our Eagles. 

Interhouse Athletics: This is always one of our highlights on our calendar! Please plan to join us for this event. It will start at 8am and will be done by 4:30pm. Please note that this is a COMPULSORY event for all pupils. Pupils are to be at school by 7:15am and may only be released to go home at the end of the event.

We encourage you as parents to come along in house colours to show your allegiances.

Grade 7 Open Day: Will be held on Friday 29 March at 10am. Attached is the flyer. Please would you assist us by circulating this to friends, family and colleagues. 

Advanced Notice: The traditional ‘Triangular Athletics’ event will take place on Saturday 6 April. This event is compulsory for all of our pupils. We encourage you as parents to come along and support this event. Note that this event will be run under the banner of the Association of Christian Schools Zimbabwe.

As indicated earlier this week, there’ll be a meeting to discuss budgets for Term 1 2019 on Thursday 7 March at 6:30pm in the school hall and on Friday 8 March at 6:30pm in the Gateway High School hall. 

Please make every effort to attend or to be represented as we confirm the way forward for the school. 

Congratulations:

A huge congratulations to Elizabeth Msipa and Wadiwanashe Musonza who, through the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe, will be attending the South Africa Champs. This is part of preparations for Africa Youth and Juniors Competitions which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire in April. Elizabeth Msipa has already qualified for this team, and it is our hope that based on his performance next week, Wadiwanashe can be confirmed into the team. We are very proud of them and wish them all of the best as they travel.

We trust that you had a nice weekend with your children. We commend those pupils who were involved in national selections over this break, and whilst none were selected into the national teams, we commend these pupils for their dedication and efforts. 

Parents Assembly Annual General Meeting: We thank all of you who joined us for this year’s Parents Assembly Annual General Meeting. We also welcome the incoming committee and office bearers and wish them all the best in this term of office. The Parents Assembly Committee play an important role, one of which is communication, so the directory for the 2019-2020 committee will be circulated soon. In the mean time please note the office bearers are as follows:

Newsflash 19/2/19

Dear Parents and Guardians, 

Parents Assembly AGM: Will start at 11:30am in the school hall tomorrow. 

Signing Out Arrangements: There will be a signing out desk based in the hall between 11am and 11:30am tomorrow. After that, signing out will be done from hostel. A reminder that we must have received a signed letter indicating your child’s travel/signing out arrangements if you or someone on your child’s signing out list are not coming in person to collect your child. These signed letters should be received by the end of day today. A signed letter is not necessary where you have confirmation from us of your child’s booking on one of our school buses. 

Exeat Weekend Buses: You need to have received confirmation of your child’s booking on the exeat weekend buses in order to be sure that your child has a seat as places were limited. Please liaise on admin@mcc.ac.zw if you have any queries. 

Harare Bus – Should arrive at Prince Edward School tomorrow between 5-5:30pm. Note that staff will only stay on hand until 5:45pm. Pupils should be back at Prince Edward School by 11:30am on Monday. The bus will not wait for those who are late. 

Bulawayo Bus – Should arrive at KFC between 2-2:15pm tomorrow. Pupils to be back at KFC by 1:15pm on Monday. 

Hwange-Victoria Falls Bus – Should arrive at Cresta Spray View between 4-4:30pm tomorrow. Pupils to be back at Cresta Sprayview by 6:55am on Monday. 

Exeat Weekend National Sporting Trials: 

Boys tennis – 15s and Under will be playing at St Johns College and the U19s will be playing at Prince Edward School from Friday to Sunday. Those using school transport will leave Gweru on Thursday at 11:45pm and will return on Monday by about 12noon. Teacher in Charge is Mr Jaravani – 0773 557 849.

Cricket – U14s will be playing at Lomagundi, U15s will be playing at Eaglesvale and U17s will be playing at Watershed. Players will leave school at 12:45pm on Wednesday and should be back at school on Sunday by 1:30pm. Teacher in Charge is Mr Stoddart – 0772 985 381. 

Boarder Requirements: As your child returns from Exeat weekend, may you provide your child with 20 clothes pegs to use to hang their casual clothes on their washing lines. Pegs are to be labelled. 

Interhouse Gala: Note that this has been postponed to Monday 4 March to accommodate the ongoing inter-districts athletics competitions.

Newsflash 13/2/19

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Parents Assembly Annual General Meeting: Will take place in the school hall at 11:30am on Wednesday 20 February. Please make every effort to attend this meeting as important issues are discussed and decisions taken are binding.

Exeat Weekend Arrangements: A reminder that this year Exeat weekend is inclusive of Youth Day so school finishes at 1pm on Wednesday 20 February. All boarders are expected to go home. Boarders should return to school between 12noon and 5pm on Monday 25 February. Lessons resume 26 February. 

Exeat Weekend Bus: 

  • Gweru – Harare – $55 one way, $110 return. 
  • Gweru – Byo – Hwange – Vic Falls – bus is full with seats allocated on a first come-first served basis. Those on this bus will receive notification from admin@mcc.ac.zw

Payments for all tickets are to be done by Friday 15 February, reference Exeat Bus. Please send through proof of payment to both bursar@mcc.ac.zw and admin@mcc.ac.zw. Confirmation of a booking must be received from admin@mcc.ac.zw. 

The Harare bus is due to arrive at Prince Edward School by 5pm. Check in for the return trip to Harare must be by 11:30am on Monday 25 February. Note that the bus will not wait for those who are late.

The Gweru – Byo – Hwange – Vic Falls bus on Wednesday is due to stop at KFC around 9:30am, Hwange Engen around 2:30pm and Cresta Sprayview at 4:30pm. The return times for Monday 25 February are bus departure from Cresta Sprayview at 7am, Hwange Engen around 9am, and KFC around 1pm. Please liaise with the area coordinator Mrs Machipisa on 0772 372 801.
