Public Examination Certificates – Cambridge certificates are to be signed for from the Front Office. 2017 ABRSM & HSK certificates have been issued to pupils. Please be sure to secure these certificates for your child’s academic records.

Consultation Day – For all Form 1, 4 & U6 pupils will be in the Upper Quad tomorrow between 8am and 1pm. Attendance is expected.

Hostel Signing Out – A reminder that usual signing out procedures are to be observed for end of term arrangements. Signed communication needs to be sent in all instances where a child is not leaving campus with someone who is on their signing out list.

A big thank you goes out to the College and our patron Mr Mandiki for providing us with the opportunity to be part of Junior Achievement Zimbabwe and organising the meeting with Goldridge College. To say the least, it was mind blowing, motivational and very engaging.

The theme set for 2018 being, “Take the future by storm”. Different speakers and representatives of Junior Achievement Zimbabwe highlighted different key aspects of the JA vision and provided much needed advice as well as giving us all a few pointers to help us prepare for the vigorous 16 week programme as well as the competition that is fast approaching. At provincial level, 18 schools(companies) will compete and three will proceed to compete with other schools in Zimbabwe, with one who will then be chosen to represent Zimbabwe in Ghana this year in December.

From team building exercises to presentations and well-planned games testing our ability to think outside of the box, we quickly learnt that applying that which we have been taught is no ‘simple task’. Running a business requires good leadership as well as team work.

As students representing Midlands Christian College we believe the seminar was a success as well as an important learning curve and hope to be able to rise up to the challenge and above all, take the future by storm!

Medical Aid Issues: A reminder to keep your child’s medical aid and medical records up to date with us. Please also ensure that your child has their original medical aid card on them as service providers need these when treatment is sought.

Textbook Issues for the School Holidays: Note that all Form 4, L6 & U6 pupils keep their textbooks for the holidays. Form 3 pupils will keep their textbooks for their examination subjects, namely: Maths, English, Commerce, Science and Technical Subjects.

Note that for any other subject or for any other form not listed above, those wishing their child to have textbooks for the holidays should email their request to academics@mcc.ac.zw by end of day Thurs 22/3. 

Triangular Athletics: Takes place on Saturday 24 March. Please note that this is a COMPULSORY event for pupils – 7:20am to 3:45pm. Competitors to be at school 7am.

Mon 26 March – School Ends 3:30pm

Tue 27 March – School ends 1pm. All Form 2, 3 and L6 boarders are free to leave for the holidays from 1pm.

Wed 28 March – Consultation time in the Upper Quad for all Form 1, 4 & U6 classes. Parents come with your child between 8am and 1pm to meet with all of your child’s teachers. Pupils are to wear uniform.

All pupils are to have left hostel by 5pm on Wed 28 March.

Holiday Programme: Cambridge examinations start 30 April. As such, there is an academic programme which will run from 16 to 27 April. A detailed letter circulated yesterday. Note that responses are needed by Fri 30 March.

Congratulations: To our Boys Basketball team who this past weekend won the U20 tournament hosted by Regina Mundi. Special mention of Thokozani Mrewa who was deemed “The Most Valuable Player of the Tournament” and was the top basket shooter, as well as Jeffrey Mhlanga who was recognised as “The Most Disciplined Player”. Congratulations to the team who were also awarded “The Most Disciplined Team” of the tournament.

Congratulations: To Tadiwanashe Maravanyika who has had the privilege of being invited by Cricket Zimbabwe to do cricket net practices with the international cricket teams who are currently in Zimbabwe for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Congratulations to our First Team Boys Basketball players who had a good tournament at Regina Mundi this past weekend.

They won 3 games and lost one in the qualifying rounds. They won the semi-final game against Shungu and progresses to the final where they won against Kwekwe High School.

Special mention is also to be made of Thokozani Mrewa who was deemed ‘The Most Valuable Player’ of the tournament and ‘The Top Basket Scorer’ of the tournament.

• I really enjoyed this mother-daughter camp. I got time to bond with my mother. I learnt that it really is a good thing to have a good relationship with your mother because they have gone through a lot for us to be here. For instance my mum really sacrificed a lot by coming all the way from Hwange to have time with me and get to bond. We had a great time together and we learnt new ways of continuing to grow and have a stronger relationship. We both also learnt to communicate and understand each other. I am grateful for my mother and above all I am grateful to God for making this weekend a time to enjoy and learn more with my mother. Kudzaishe Gwesu

• How exciting was this camp? On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it a 10 out of 10 because that’s how fun and interesting it was. The food was scrumptious, the activities were so fun, and not forgetting the animals here at the Park. What I learnt from this camp is that it is good to bond with your mum and getting closer to her creates that special bond which makes you two stronger. Another something that I learnt from this camp is that not all mums are perfect and everyone makes mistakes but they try their best to make sure that we have the best and if one angers the other one, it’s goof to tell each other that, “I was wrong”. • Camp has been such an extra-ordinary extraordinary, enjoyable, fun and an amazing experience. • The camp was really fun. Bonding with my mother was one of the things that I enjoyed the most. I learnt that my mother is the right person from God as much as she isn’t perfect and together as mother and daughter, we are vessels.

• Mother-Daughter camp was one fun and jolly good experience. We spent a lot of time with our parents and it was a time I won’t forget. There are some topics that were awkward to talk about but we adapted to it because awkwardness is overrated. I got a chance to play with my mom because at home, mothers are always bust. I learnt about fairness and why mothers are overprotective and how us children should understand that mothers are not perfect, we all make mistakes! Unouyashe Mukwewa

• This was a great experience. I got time to bond with my mum. We did a lot of activities that made our relationship stronger. We also got some ‘hints’ on how to discover the use that the Master has for us. Timukudzeishe Dondo

• This weekend was very eye-opening. I learnt that I can’t get what I don’t receive. I really liked the coded-conversations idea. I never knew that my mom and I were a unit. I just really hope that the bond stays and that I do not forget and start dealing with my problems alone again.

Mother-Daughter Camp – The Mothers Give Feedback

• Thank you MCC for this wonderful opportunity with our daughters. Personally for me, this was the best ever bonding I’ve had with my daughter. She has been a border all her life and in the holidays  I will always be busy at work as I work in retail. So, thank you so much! I learnt a lot and will always find time for my daughter.

• I really benefitted from the camp. I came to realise that for me to have a strong relationship with my daughter, I have to open up a communication line with her and mainly all this has to be based on prayer.  This must not remain as a matter of words, but it has to be put into practice. This camp helped me a lot so teachers,  don’t give up on arranging more camps. Be blessed!

• The food was good, even the venue was fantastic. The sessions were life challenging and changing and taught us a lot on what we need to improve on. The bonding helped up to notice patches in our lived that need to be mended.

• An eye-opening event. Networking and meeting other mums and getting to know our girls and knowing the challenges the teachers go through. It was helpful understanding the girl and the things that worry them.
