Crossroads and Ancient Paths

We can be overwhelmed by what is going on in our lives or around us. We can be faced with crossroads in our lives – with challenging and multiple key areas needing our attention or decisions that need to be made. There can be great stress. There can be sadness and loss and we can question where God has gone.

There can be confusion.

Just before the Israelites got to the Red Sea which God would part for them and allow them to cross safely through, God seemed to move away from them. He had been going ahead of them, showing them the way and protecting them, but at this critical, hard, confusing time in their journey, God seemed to move away from them. You can hear them questioning God and asking, “Where did God go? Why did He leave us?”

How often do we question God because we can’t see Him moving in our lives? But how often is it that fact that He moves from in front of us to position Himself behind us – just like he did with the Israelites. He put Himself between the Israelites and the Egyptians – and neither group came near each other all that night.

If you feel like God’s gone missing today, and perhaps He’s moved out of your line of sight, from in front go you, to positions Himself behind you – you can be assured He’s got your back and is protecting you. God fights our battles for us in ways we can’t always see or imagine, but we can be assured that He is working. It’s hard to trust when you can’t see, gut that is when we choose to walk by faith and not by sight.

“This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6 vs 16a.
