PULSE 20/11/18 – GLS ‘Takeaways’

At this year’s Global Leadership Summit, Strive Masiyiwa was interviewed by T. D. Jakes. Here are some of the points which stuck out from their conversation. We hope that something here will ‘stand out’ to you and will challenge or inspire you.

  • Don’t be scared to be a visionary and to have ideas beyond convention.

  • If you want to be a success, identify a human need and reach out to it. Let your business be something that solves a need and then you don’t have to ‘sell it’.
  • Leadership often involves going against the current.
  • We need to actively work to remove the ‘disadvantaged mindset’ as regardless of situation or past, everyone has the opportunity to be a world changer.
  • We need to train and invest in producing wise people – it is not just about raising people to think for themselves – but to think for others and about others.
  • We need to model life – mentorship is great, but people tend to do what they see – so the challenge is to ‘model’ life to the next generation.
  • We need exposure to each other – we must be careful to not minimise social skills or the ability to speak emotively and passionately – human connection is key and should not be replaced by technology.
  • The conditioning of our hearts is evident in our speech. We need to fill our hearts with the foundations of the gospel.

“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.”

Luke 6:45 NLT

  • For our children, what is most important is not what you leave to them, but what you leave in them!
